Etienne Marcel like: Marilyn & Me: A Memoir in Words and Photographs

Noted photographer Lawrence Schiller embarks on a tour of Europe, where he will be to launching his stunning new book, Marilyn & Me.

Film producer, director, screenwriter, photographer and author; there isn’t much in the media world that the multi-talented and legendary Lawrence Schiller hasn’t turned his hands to. Now, the man who famously captured the curves of Marilyn Monroe shimmering beneath the surface of a turquoise swimming pool on the set of her 1962 film Something’s Got to Give will be showcasing his photography of the star, in a stunning new Art Edition book that commemorates his memories of her in words and pictures.

One of the four photographers still alive to have immortalised Monroe on film, Schiller first shared his experiences of working closely with the actress in 1973. Back then, he collaborated with Norman Mailer and 24 of the world’s foremost photographers on the best-selling book Marilyn, which sold 6 million copies in 16 languages. Although Schiller contributed many striking and intimate photographs of her to the book, it did not contain any written accounts of his experience with Marilyn in his own words, and since then, Schiller has not published any more material on the star.

This summer, for the first time, Schiller offers a fresh perspective on America’s original blonde bombshell in his own words. It's a tactful, funny and compassionate account that intimately relives the time he spent with her during the filming of Something’s Got to Give. Schiller’s memories are accompanied by a collection of more than 100 images, which showcase both her glamour and vulnerability. Most of the images have never been seen before, giving fans a rare glimpse into the life of the star while she was shooting her two final films.
Schiller will be embarking on a tour of Europe this month where he will be meeting the press and public in Cannes, London, Brussels, Paris and Berlin, as well as attending two of his exhibitions and launching Marilyn & Me at The Cannes Film Festival. Fittingly, on occasion of its 65th birthday, the iconic festival has chosen to pay homage to Hollywood’s favourite golden girl by choosing her as its poster girl for 2012, providing the perfect platform for Schiller to launch his book. The release of this stylish, intimate volume is a fitting memorial not only to America’s most iconic actress, but also to the life and emblematic work of Schiller himself.
